Honoring Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant Bruce Allen Watson

The Houston area has again been struck with tragedy as another law enforcement officer has lost his life in the line of duty. Sergeant Bruce Allen Watson of the Harris County Texas Sheriff's Office, was killed in a vehicle accident on Saturday, January 2, 2021 He had just completed a funeral escort when his department motorcycle collided with an SUV. He was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Bruce Watson was a Godly man, devoted husband, father and son. Bruce graduated from Pontiac Northern High School in 1989, where he was on the football, wrestling, and track teams. Bruce was also a member of the Jr. KAPPA league. He joined the Army in 1990 and served in Desert Storm as a specialist. In 1992, he was awarded the Key to the City of Pontiac, Michigan. Bruce was known for his big heart, infectious smile, and willingness to teach others.

Bruce joined the Sheriff's Office in March 2000, and was called back to active duty, where he was promoted to sergeant and trained as a military police officer. Upon separation from the Army, Bruce returned to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, where he was a patrol field training officer and an instructor at the training academy. Bruce was promoted to sergeant and served as a Detention Sergeant in the Harris County jail. He was currently assigned to the Patrol Support Service Bureau, where he worked the nightshift at the Emergency Dispatch Center.

He is survived by his wife, three children, and grandchild. His wife serves with the Houston Police Department.

These are extremely difficult and dangerous times for our law enforcement officers and they sacrifice so much of themselves for each of us. Personally thank them when you see them in public.
